Angelica Ross, a member of the cast of American Horror Story: 1984, has revealed that her co-star Emma Roberts has apologized to her following accusations of misgendering. The incident occurred on the set of the Ryan Murphy series, prompting Ross to voice her concerns on social media. Roberts privately expressed remorse and gratitude for being called out, acknowledging that her behavior was not that of an ally. Ross has kept the lines of communication open to discuss Roberts' commitment to improving and supporting social justice causes through her platform.
In addition, Ross shared another incident during an Instagram Live session. She recounted a momentary break between scenes where Roberts made a joking complaint about Ross being "mean" to her. A crew member attempted to defuse the situation by urging them to resume work, to which Roberts allegedly responded, "Don't you mean lady?" This incident left Ross feeling deeply upset, as she was wary of speaking up, fearing potential consequences. She emphasized the repercussions faced by individuals who have previously spoken out against Roberts' behavior.
Following the incident, Ross distanced herself from Roberts for the remainder of the ninth season of American Horror Story, which aired in the fall of 2019 on FX. During another Instagram Live session, Ross also discussed encountering a crew member on set wearing shirts with controversial slogans such as "Build That Wall" and "I Don't Kneel." When she brought this to the attention of higher-ups, her concerns were dismissed as an exercise of "free speech."
A representative for the show's producer, 20th Television, declined to provide comment on the matter.
